HIGH FIBER DIET FOR DIVERTICULAR
DISEASE
Purpose: To provide a diet with 3 to 4 grams of
appropriate fiber to promote regular elimination and increases fecal excretion.
Use: This diet can be used for the management of
diverticulosis.
Dietary Guidelines
- Omit nuts, fruits and vegetables with seeds because
they may become lodged in pockets protruding from the intestinal wall
- Coarse bran is the most effective fiber source in helping
food move through the digestive system faster.
- Increase consumption of whole grains, legumes,
fruits and vegetables without seeds.
- Drink at least 6 to 8 cups of fluid each day
- Eat a balanced diet including foods from the basic
four food groups
